Ties between Hong Kong and Texas strengthened

The Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco (HKETO San Francisco), Mr. D. C. Cheung was in Dallas April 24-25, on his first official visit to Texas.

During the visit, HKETO San Francisco co-hosted a roundtable discussion with the City of Dallas and the US-Mexico Chamber of Commerce, bringing together more than 15 government officials and business leaders for an in-depth discussion on the opportunities in Hong Kong and Dallas/Texas, and the potential for deeper collaboration between the two places.

At the discussion, Mr. Cheung pointed out that the US enjoys trade surpluses in both goods and services with Hong Kong and that US companies hire more than 130,000 employees in the city. As a founding member of the WTO, Hong Kong is a staunch supporter of free trade and does not impose tariffs on goods from any economies, he said. Hong Kong is a gateway to the vast Mainland China market and goes further to the ASEAN countries, he added.

While in Dallas, Mr. Cheung also attended a business luncheon hosted by Cathay Pacific to celebrate the launch of a new direct flight between Hong Kong and Dallas.
