Hong Kong Cinema Showcase at CAAMFest 2025

Classic and contemporary movies were presented under a curated showcase at CAAMFest 2025, held May 8-11 in San Francisco.

The featured movies include “Blossoms Under Somewhere”, a coming-of-age drama about a stuttering high school girl and her unethical business; “To Be Continued”, a documentary about conservation efforts of a historic theater and the forgotten legend of Hong Kong’s first impresario; and “Boat People”, an important work of the Hong Kong New Wave by renowned director Ann Hui.

The showcase also brought two young film talents from Hong Kong to San Francisco, Riley Yip, director of “Blossoms Under Somewhere” and Paul Chan, producer of “To Be Continued”. Both of them interacted with the audience after the screenings of their respective movies. They were also welcomed at a reception hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco (HKETO San Francisco) on May 10.

HKETO San Francisco is dedicated to promoting Hong Kong films in the US. Apart from introducing Hong Kong productions to US audience, the office also invites Hong Kong film talents to attend film festivals on the west coast, enhancing cultural exchange between the two places. Last year, the office hosted and/or participated in ten film festivals and events in seven cities across five states in the western part of the US. Most of these ongoing efforts are made possible with support from the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency and the Film Development Fund.
