The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco participated in the Colorado Dragon Boat Film Festival and the Sonoma International Film Festival to showcase some of the latest and classic works of Hong Kong cinema.
In Denver, Colorado, renowned Hong Kong director Ann Hui’s latest work “Elegies” was featured in this year’s Colorado Dragon Boat Film Festival, which was held on March 14-17. Elegies is a documentary on her encounters with home-grown poets, in which she paints a picture of the city in beautiful poems accompanied by atmospheric shots of Hong Kong life.
In the beautiful wine country of Sonoma, California, a full day of Hong Kong films followed by a reception featuring a visiting Hong Kong director were presented under the “Hong Kong Spotlight” in the 2024 Sonoma International Film Festival on March 23.
Two Hong Kong films, a new release and a classic, screened at the festival. In “Everyphone Everywhere”, Director Amos Why looks at social norms and their fissures across the landscape of contemporary Hong Kong through a reunion of three high school buddies after 25 years. He attended the festival in person from Hong Kong to introduce the film and participate in a post-screening Q&A.
The screening of Hong Kong New Wave classic “Nomad”, starring the legendary Leslie Cheung, was a 4K restoration version of the Director’s Cut.
