Mr. Jeff Leung took up his appointment as Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco on August 1.
On July 23, a reception was held at the office to welcome him as well as to bid farewell to former director, Ms Doris Cheung. More than 200 government officials, consuls general, as well as business and community leaders attended the reception.
At the reception, Director Leung updated the guests on the latest in Hong Kong. He said that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is developing six economic pillars where the city enjoys clear advantages to further enhance the long term competitiveness of Hong Kong.
“These areas are: testing and certification, medical services, innovation and technology, cultural and creative services, environmental industry as well as educational services,” said Mr. Jeff Leung.
Yet, rule of law, free flow of capital and information, level playing field, a simple and low tax regime, clean government, and close ties with Mainland China will continue to make Hong Kong an ideal place for doing business and a perfect springboard to the China market.
Also addressing the guests was former director, Ms Doris Cheung. She thanked the guests who have rendered unwavering support to Hong Kong and the office throughout the years.
“Many of you joined us in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of this office; welcomed the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and successful implementation of ‘One Country, Two Systems” and witnessed Hong Kong’s arrival as an Olympic city for Equestrian Events,” she said.
“In addition, many trade partners, state and city governments and professional groups helped us receive our Chief Executive and other top government officials and business leaders from Hong Kong and gave us the opportunities to tell the Hong Kong story.”
Hong Kong is a vibrant international city with many roles. The office will continue to strengthen Hong Kong’s economic, trade and cultural ties with the United States.
