The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs. Rita Lau, visited Los Angeles on November 17, 2008 before attending the APEC Annual Ministerial Meeting in Lima, Peru.
In her first visit to California as Hong Kong’s top trade official, Mrs. Lau addressed an audience of some 200 business leaders and senior government officials at a luncheon in Los Angeles organized by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco, the Los Angeles World Affairs Council and the Hong Kong Association of Southern California.

The Architectural Services Department signed a design and build contract with Gammon Construction for the Hong Kong Pavilion at the World Exposition 2010 Shanghai China.
The pavilion's theme will be "Hong Kong - A City with Unlimited Potential" when the expo opens on May 1, 2010. The design is based on the winning entry of a concept design competition the Government held earlier
this year.

Donald Tong has assumed the post of Hong Kong Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs, USA, the most senior representative of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region Government in the US.
As Commissioner, he engages in constituency-building activities across the US and directs the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's efforts to enhance Hong Kong-US cultural, economic, and trade ties. Mr. Tong also oversees the work of the three Hong Kong Economic and Trade Offices in Washington D.C., New York and San Francisco.

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs. Rita Lau, welcomed the release of the Michelin guide in Hong Kong.
“I am very pleased that Hong Kong has become one of the first Michelin cities in China,” said Mrs. Lau. “The release of the Michelin guide is further recognition of Hong Kong's reputation as a center for gastronomy.”
