Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr. Mak Chai Kwong visited the Bay Area in August. Mr. Mak, who is also a member of the Steering Committee on the HKSAR Support for Reconstruction in the Sichuan Earthquake Stricken Areas, had just returned from a visit to Chengdu prior to his private visit to the San Francisco Bay Area.
While in the Bay Area, Mr. Mak met with community leaders and briefed them on major infrastructure projects in Hong Kong and Hong Kong’s role in rebuilding Sichuan. When he was in Sichuan, he took part in meetings with the Sichuan Provincial Government on Hong Kong’s participation in the post-quake reconstruction work, especially for the Woolung area where the pandas reside.
Oakland City Council Member and former Vice Mayor of Oakland, Mr. Henry Chang; President of Oakland Chinatown Chamber Foundation, Mr.Carl Chan; OOCL (USA) Inc. Marketing Director, Mr. Frankie Lau and Dr. Larry Ng, President of the Hong Kong University Alumni Association (HKUAA) and board members of HKUAA had the pleasure of meeting with Mr. Mak at a breakfast gathering whereby they learned the various world-class infrastructure work projects in Hong Kong and HKSARG’s participation in the reconstruction work in Sichuan. The breakfast meeting was hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco.
