The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco participated in an exclusive reception welcoming the Olympic torch to San Francisco.
The Olympic torch passed through San Francisco - the only stop in North America on April 9. Joining San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom; Consul General of The People’s Republic of China in San Francisco, Gao Zhansheng; the San Francisco torch relay honorary community task force co-chairs, Jim Scherr, CEO of United States Olympic Committee and Lloyd Dean, CEO of Catholic Healthcare West; Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, San Francisco, Ms Doris Cheung, welcomed the Olympic torch at the Asian Art Museum on April 8.
“I am privileged to be representing Hong Kong in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate the torch relay in San Francisco,” said Ms Cheung. “Hong Kong is proud to be co-hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events. From world-class venues, state-of-the-art facilities to professional expertise, Hong Kong is fully committed to provide the best possible service to athletes, team officials and visitors, as well as excellent care for some 200 competition horses from around the world.
“Hong Kong is riding high with Olympic spirit. We are ready. Come and experience the Olympic spirit and vibrancy of Asia’s World City,” she concluded.
At the reception, Ms Cheung also met with torchbearers from different parts of the United States.
On April 9, during the torch relay in San Francisco, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco distributed flyers and souvenirs of the Olympic Equestrian events to be held in Hong Kong to members of the public welcoming the torch.
