A Logo Design Competition to kick off the 20th anniversary celebration

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco celebrated its 20th anniversary in September 2006. To kick off the occasion, a logo design competition was organized in the summer to invite the public to participate. The competition generated many entries. After careful consideration, the design by Mr. Albert Chui was chosen as the winning logo.

Ms Doris Cheung presents the prizes to the winner, Mr. Albert Chui, whose design is adopted in the backdrop for the 20th anniversary celebration events.Mr. Chui was born and raised in Hong Kong and was glad that he could play a part in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco. Mr. Chui is a graphic designer by profession.

“I played up the number, twenty, as it is the theme of the logo. I used the concept of the bridge as it represents the role of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, which connects the businesses and trade between Hong Kong and the western part of the United States. The Golden Gate Bridge represents San Francisco and the flowing water represents Hong Kong, a vibrant city, full of energy,” said Mr. Chui when commenting on his design.

“Before designing the logo, I did a lot of research about the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office,” he continued. “I was not thinking of winning when I designed the logo. I just wanted to contribute as I was from Hong Kong.”

Mr. Chui was delighted to learn that he would have a chance to visit Hong Kong again as the prizes included a Cathay Pacific round trip airline ticket to Hong Kong; four nights stay at Langham Hotel Group, and the Hong Kong Tourism Board’s sponsored tours.

Ms Doris Cheung, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, San Francisco congratulated Mr. Chui at the prize presentation ceremony. “The reasons for choosing this logo are two-fold. It clearly spells out the 20th anniversary and the Golden Gate Bridge signifies our presence here in San Francisco and our role as a bridge between Hong Kong and the western Untied States,” said Ms Cheung.
