Further trade liberalization measures under CEPA
The Mainland and Hong Kong have agreed to expand the scope of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA). The new measures cover goods and services, and enhanced cooperation in intellectual property protection.

On goods, a total of 37 more Hong Kong products will be entitled for zero tariff in entering the Mainland market starting from July 1, 2006.

 

Investors show strong support for Hong Kong
Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang thanked new foreign, Mainland Chinese and Taiwan investors for their substantial contribution to the Hong Kong economy at a reception held in Hong Kong recently.

Hong Kong films featured in San Francisco and Seattle film festivals
The award-winning Hong Kong film “Perhaps Love” launched the 49th San Francisco International Film Festival in April.

For the first time in the San Francisco International Film Festival’s 49-year history, a Hong Kong film was selected as the opening night film.

Government proposes revenue neutral tax reform to broaden Hong Kong's tax base
The Hong Kong Government issued a consultation document outlining proposed reforms to the current tax system in Hong Kong. Having considered a range of options to broaden the tax base, the Government has concluded that reform via the introduction of a Goods and Services Tax (GST) is the preferred option for consideration.
